Golf Putting Statistics
If you’ve ever watched golf on TV or visited one of the main tours’ websites (www.uspgatour.com or www.europeantour.com are two of the main sites), you’ll know that golf is all about statistics. Here are a few to get you started :
- Tour pros only hole around 90% of three foot putts
- Tour pros only hole around 65% of five foot putts
- Tour pros hole around 20% of ten foot putts
- From 20 feet, tour pros only hole around 2-3% of putts
- In 2008 how many time did Tiger Woods miss a putt in a tournament from less than five feet ? Answer – NONE !!!
- Top tour professionals take around 28 putts per round of golf, or 1.56 putts per green
So what does this tell us?
It tells us that to stand a good chance of two putting each green, even the top players in the world need to get their first putt (or chip) within five feet of the hole to have more than 65% chance of holing out with the next putt.
For amateurs the percentages are of course lower, so it’s even more crucial to get the first putt as close as possible and master those crucial putts from inside five feet.
Which is exactly what Golf Putting Online is here for !
Do you know how many putts you took in your last round ? If you can’t remember, why not make a note of it on your score card next time you play a round. I think you’ll be surprised just how many you take, and it will really convince you just how important golf putting is to lowering your scores and helping you win those matchplay competitions.
